Melbourne's Buddies Featured in 'Marina World' Magazine

January 18, 2006

UK company Liverpool Water Witch, builder of the Water Witch range of workboats for waterway maintenance, has delivered two vessels to Parks Victoria, Melbourne, Australia.

Shipped from the UK in a standard 20ft container last November, the vessels feature an efficient litter collection system and were built to meet the survey standard of the Australian USL Code for Class 2 commercial vessels. For added versatility, handrails, deck plates and operator's seats are all removable.

Environmental considerations have been an important factor in the run-up to hosting the Volvo Yacht Race and Melbourne Commonwealth Games in early 2006. The city's waters, including the Yarra River and Victoria Harbour, are a natural asset and the setting for major riverside developments. As such, they are favoured recreational spots popular with tourists and as venues for a wide range of events.

A key responsibility for Parks Victoria is to enhance the recreational and visitor satisfaction of Melbourne's waterway and the acquisition of the craft will make a significant contribution to this objective.

Water Witch director, Jackie Caddick, commented: "Water Witch has exported worldwide but this was our first delivery to Australia. Hopefully, it will be one of many as environmental and safety issues become increasingly important in the marina industry."
