New Workboat Launched
June 21, 2005
Liverpool Water Witch, specialist builders of pollution control and waterway workboats have launched a new range of innovative, low-cost litter collection workboats, called ‘Buddy Catamarans'.
Already a proven success, Water Witch have recently delivered a Buddy Catamaran for the Clean Tyne Project, a scheme to clean up the River Tyne in the UK. Perfect timing for the arrival of the Tall Ships Race in Newcastle this summer.
Available in a range of sizes up to 10m, and built from high quality aluminium, the Buddy is a catamaran configuration. The Buddy is just one of our workboats that have been developed to meet the needs of modern Marinas and Harbour operators:
- Specifically designed for maximum stability, ease of operation and extremely low operating costs
- Flexible design includes ‘pods' – these sit in between the catamaran hulls, for the efficient and easy collection of floating litter and garbage, or for load carrying.
Once full, these pods can be lifted and tipped directly into a skip or waste container. For maximum flexibility, within minutes deck plates can be fitted between the hulls – creating a work platform to assist in a range of maintenance duties.
Highly manoeuvrable, the workboat is fitted with wheel fenders to allow her to run flush against quay walls, where litter tends to collect.
The Buddy Catamaran workboat is powered by a whisper-quiet four stroke outboard, combined with a hull specially designed for minimal wake - the Buddy is extremely marina friendly.
Additional optional equipment includes:
- Weed cutter for aquatic weed control
- Full range of oil spill response equipment
- Road trailer for transport between sites or to avoid the need for a permanent berth.
Hulls are constructed from 4mm marine grade aluminium for strength, for long life and low maintenance. Offering superb multi-use options, the Buddy's handrails and deck plates are removable. UK MCA Code of Practice for Small Workboats certification to Category 6 is available as an option.
Joe Caddick, Managing Director of Liverpool Water Witch said, "The new range of aluminium vessels match the company's philosophy of offering multi-tasking workboats that meet a wide range of requirements. Also, we feel the low cost of ownership will be a very attractive feature to operators of Marinas and small harbours."
The Buddy Catamaran workboat is already a proving a success - with the recent delivery of a 6m Buddy Catamaran for the Clean Tyne Project, a scheme to clean up the River Tyne in the UK. Operated through four local councils and the Port of Tyne and supported by Sita Environmental Trust, the project has named the vessel 'Sita Eater'. She will clean up floating debris and litter, ensuring that the river is in pristine condition for the arrival of the Tall Ships Race on the River Tyne in July 2005.
